On the road to Seattle

We drove 631 miles today, starting at 6:30 a.m. when Don and Mary Jo left for the Dayton airport. She is off to Albuquerque for a two-week bike ride to Champaign, Illinois. She has ridden a box around the U.S., crossing from Astoria, Oregon, to New Hampshire; San Diego to St. Augustine, FL; then Canada to Mexico on the West Coast and Maine to St. Augustine, FL, on the East Coast.

So what's the attraction of riding from New Mexico to Illinois? She says it will take her to three states where she has not ridden.

There are others, and if anyone wants to organize a ride in North Dakota, Nebraska and other assorted Midwest states, I know one person who is likely to sign up. I'd consider tagging along to keep her company -- in the evenings. I can't keep up during the day.

Kathy and I made it into Lawrence, Kansas, today in time to get an oil change for the truck. It passed 6,000 miles today; that's 6,000 miles in 34 days. Barring too many side trips in Utah, we should make it back to Seattle without stopping for another 3,000-mile oil change.
