Picnic in the wind |
The very short picnic stop was a return to Echo Canyon, where the rain stopped long enough to attempt eating outside the truck. But the wind had not stopped and we grabbed some food and left. One nice thing was the taste of home: Fran's chocolates. We are bringing some for my chocoholic sister, but if our stash runs out . . . we are powerless before chocolate, especially Fran's.
Chocolates in short supply |
Thanks to Sirius radio in the new truck, we also were able to tune into the Mariners' game. Just before the first pitch, we heard Rick Rizzs say, "It's a beautiful evening here at Safeco Field, 73 degrees." I glanced down at the outside temperature shown on the dashboard: 39 degrees somewhere between Rawlins and Laramie, WY.
Makes you wonder why you wander.
But even in a day of driving you learn a lot by wandering. At Echo Canyon I learned about the Utah War. Had never heard of it. On our bathroom break, I read all about Fort Steele, which I had never heard of. If given half a chance, I read all the plaques. Never go to a historical museum with me if you're in a hurry.
