Walkin' the talk

Yes, the moose is on the loose today. Well, at least he's strolled around the room, stood at the sink and, miracle of miracles, gotten a shower for the first time in 9 days. Ahhhhhh.
All the activity promptly flattened him. He is snoring as I write, and for once in his sorry life, his wife is not jabbing him in the ribs to make him stop.
I am becoming his own personal Nurse Ratchet, barking out order after order: "Don't blow your nose!" (newly surgered-on brains get very unhappy when subjected to extra pressure); "Don't pick at that little bump on your hand, you'll bleed! "Move those ankles some more," "Quit trying to scratch your head!"
Soon I may earn back the name I was given as chief of the copy desk: the Common Scold. I deserve it, but I didn't care then and I don't care now, so there!
The business at hand is more of the same. John was very unhappy to learn he must stay here at least one more day; those blood-thinners are not where they need to be yet. Very likely he won't get sprung before Saturday -- ASSuming he doesn't play any more havoc with himself. Ratchet and her able assistant, Mary Jo, are on him.
Thanks to all who are commenting. It is a comfort to me, knowing you are all so close. And Naomi, the flowers arrived this morning. They are about as lovely as any I've seen. Thanks for them, but also for all you did to prepare us via your own experience, and now, to help us get through the rest. The advice has been invaluable.
Thanks, too, to Becky Pierce for stopping by and assuring us that you had our back up here. The nurse manager showed up early this morning to make sure we had everything we needed. We are well treated on 3 West as well.
I'll talk to you all again soon. KT

  1. The magic of healing is a wonderful thing. All those bike rides, early morning work outs and days in the rugby mud are coming back to reward John B. All ingredients for a healthy body, which is working its hardest to replace those cells where that stubborn old Raymond Massey used to reside. Producing new cells is an exhausting job, and I am so glad to hear John is doing it well!

Hang in there John, Kathy and big sister Mary Jo. Pasta … from the ‘other’ Tazioli kitchen … will be coming your way once you are settled at home.

  2. Is it okay if the rest of us pick our noses? Jack Broom wants to know. He asked me to ask you. Really. Honest.

  3. What's anonymous? I'm not anonymous. I'm Taz. How come I can't post a photo? What's the matter with this thing? Jack Broom REALLY does want to know that.

  4. Bitching has been given a very bad name. If it's in a good cause, be proud of your skill! It takes years to become proficient at it..........

  5. Kathy and John - So glad you liked the flowers! I knew that everything was going to be a no-no in ICU but now you've flown the coop up to the wonderful world of 3 West! So heartened by all the progress today. Been following along every day cheering John on!

  6. NUrse Ratchett reminds me of when my dad was in the hospital for a month, desperate to get out. The nurses had forgotten to get him up for a walk, and I approached one, barked "turn around and look at me. Now get to his room and get him up." As you said Kath, I didnt care. What needs to be done...
A virtual hug to you both.

  9. Ahhhhh, a shower! Things are looking up, and smelling better, too I imagine. Keep up the great work John, Kathy, and Mary Jo. You're constantly in our prayers as the healing process continues.
